Connecting Digital Piano to Personal Computer
The first step to ensuring that the digital piano can be connected to the personal computer is to make sure that the digital piano has either MIDI ports or USB ports. After that, the digital piano must be connected to the corresponding cable to connect with the personal computer.
If the digital piano has a USB port, it is necessary to use USB A to USB B cable. If the digital piano has MIDI ports, it is required to use MIDI to USB cables.
It is advised to check the backside of the digital piano for the port labelling of USB to host or USB or MIDI Out and MIDI In to avoid confusions. You can also purchase the connecting cables either online or in electronic shops if the wires are not a part of the digital piano package. Most of the Roland and Yamaha digital pianos come with the wires.
If the digital piano has a USB port, it is necessary to use USB A to USB B cable. This connecting cable is also famously referred to as printer cable as it can also be used to connect personal computers to printers.
- The USB B end of the wire looks squarer. Now, connect it to the Digital Piano USB ports. If it is force fitted wrongly, the port might get damaged.
- In case of the digital pianos having multiple USB options like USB to device and USB to host, it is a must that the USB B end of the cable is to be connected to the USB to host port and not to the USB to device port.
- The USB A end of the cable is to be connected to the personal computer. It is necessary to ensure that both the personal computer and the digital pianos must be powered on.
- The playground is to be launched to post the connection. Now the set up will begin. At the digital piano configuration set up, the window prompts to select the model of the digital piano from the menu dropdown. In case of the digital piano model name unavailability in the dropdown, the cable type name can be selected from the menu dropdown.
- After this step completion, please click next button to complete and establish the connection of the digital piano with the PC.
If the digital piano has MIDI ports, it is necessary to use MIDI to USB cables.
To connect your digital piano to the personal computer, the MIDI IN end of the cable is to be connected to MIDI OUT port on the digital piano. The MIDI OUT of the cable is to be connected to the MIDI IN port of the digital piano.
In the case of plugging the MIDI cables in the above step fails, the connection can be established by reversing the connection strategy.
The USB A end of the cable is to be connected to the personal computer. It is necessary to ensure that both the personal computer and the digital pianos are powered on.
